Think of Sleipner as “D2 on steroids”: a Swedish tool steel with an unusually strong blend of wear resistance, edge stability and resistance to chipping. Uddeholm developed it as a versatile step up where traditional A2 or D2 no longer offers the working balance required.

WHY IT WORKS IN KNIVES
Sleipner’s appeal is simple: an aggressive, lasting working edge with toughness to support it. At Kizlyar Supreme, we pair that material with carefully chosen heat treatment and blade geometry to create a knife that earns its place in your outdoor kit.

KIZLYAR SUPREME HEAT TREATMENT
Kizlyar Supreme has used Sleipner in selected production runs, with knife blades typically targeted around 61–63 HRC according to the model and geometry. Our controlled hardening and tempering develop the sharpness, strength and edge stability that make Sleipner worth seeking out. Selected versions are produced when the steel is available.

CUTTING AND SHARPENING
Sleipner supports a keen, stable edge and performs well in fixed blades ranging from compact field knives to larger outdoor tools. It is generally more approachable to sharpen than some very high-carbide wear-resistant steels. Quality diamond, ceramic or modern water stones are appropriate; match the angle to the knife's intended work.

CORROSION AND CARE
With 7.8% chromium, Sleipner is not stainless. It offers some corrosion resistance but should be wiped clean and dry after use, especially after contact with moisture, salt, food acids or plant sap. Apply a thin coat of suitable protective oil before longer storage and do not store a damp knife in its sheath.

KEY ADVANTAGES
• Broad balance of wear resistance and toughness
• Good resistance to edge chipping
• High attainable hardness and stable cutting performance
• Good machinability and grindability for a tool steel
• Suitable for many fixed-blade sizes and working geometries

CONSIDERATIONS
• Requires routine corrosion care
• Look for selected production runs and confirm the available steel version
