MORE THAN A BADGE

Recognition grounded in specialist assessment.

The awards listed here were presented within the competition programmes of Blade: Traditions and Modernity and Blade on the Neva. Their juries bring together museum, cultural, forensic, practical and industry expertise.

Depending on the category, knives are assessed for design, execution, materials and aesthetics, or subjected to practical cutting, control, edge-retention and construction tests.

Evidence-led presentation

Every result is supported either by an original diploma or by the exhibition organiser’s signed statement. English certificate translations link directly to their Russian originals.

HOW THE KNIVES ARE ASSESSED

Design judgement and practical testing.

Artistic competition entries are assessed for concept, quality of execution, continuity of craft traditions, originality, materials, composition and cultural appropriateness.

Practical trials examine initial sharpness, control, cutting performance, ergonomics, edge behaviour and residual sharpness. Folding knives can also face a separate lock-reliability check.

Paper

Initial and final sharpness, clean cutting and edge retention.

Felt and rope

Cutting control, effort and performance through resilient material.

Pine and hose

Edge stability, handling and controlled cutting under varied loads.

Construction

Ergonomics, assembly quality, strength and folding-lock reliability.

QUESTIONS

Understanding the awards.

Who presents these awards?

The competition programmes are organised within the specialist exhibitions Blade: Traditions and Modernity in Moscow and Blade on the Neva in Saint Petersburg.

Are the knives actually tested?

Practical categories use multi-stage cutting and handling trials. Other competition streams evaluate design, execution, materials and aesthetics through specialist juries.

Why are the certificates shown in English?

The English layouts help international readers understand each diploma. The words “original document” at the foot of every translation open the corresponding Russian diploma.

Do all fourteen results have diploma scans here?

Five distinct original diplomas are currently available. The remaining results are confirmed in a signed statement from the exhibition organiser and will receive translated certificate presentations when their scans are added.
