Kydex is a thermoplastic acrylic polyvinyl chloride sheet material invented in the United States in 1965.
For some models, Kizlyar Supreme makes sheaths from Kydex, Russian for "Kydex".
The material combines the positive properties of acrylic - stiffness and malleability - and polyvinyl chloride - unsurpassed durability and resistance to external chemical and mechanical influences.
Although Kydex subjectively feels a bit like soft plastic, it is a completely different material that is extremely tough and durable. The low flexibility of Kydex used in Kizlyar Supreme sheaths allows them to be designed in such a way that no mechanisms or locks are required to secure the knife inside - the sheath expands when the knife goes in and immediately returns to its thermoformed shape for the knife.
The unmatched durability of Kydex ensures that the sheath will never let you down - it will not cut, crack, swell or rot. Compared to traditional plastic, it is much more flexible and cannot be broken, it will only crumple and then return to its shape.
Kydex has high volume stability, does not change its size when the environment changes, does not absorb moisture, is fireproof and easy to clean. It has a slightly rough surface, which protects the case from small scratches and reduces slippage.
The Kydex used by Kizlyar Supreme is made in the USA and has some very unique features:
high strength (hardness 94-111 Rockwell R units)
high impact strength (961 j/m)
high elasticity parameters (2,482 MPa, 360,000 psi)
high fire resistance (stable up to 78 degrees Celsius forming temperature)
High abrasion resistance, e.g. against scratches
High resistance to chemicals
High volume stability, no size change with environmental changes Completely non-absorbent Slightly rough surface, no pores
Kydex sheaths from Kizlyar Supreme are usually equipped with numerous, evenly distributed holes - not for nothing, because these holes provide unmatched flexibility to attach the knife almost anywhere and in any position. You can attach a pivoting clip and hang the knife horizontally behind your back and vertically in the traditional way, you can hang it around your neck, you can strap it anywhere and attach it to any unloading system, even on your shoulder or under your arm.
Kydex is available in a variety of colors and is used in so many industries including military, aerospace, automotive, medical and many more. For example, many aircraft and automotive components, especially seats and similar parts, are made from Kydex because of its fire resistance, durability and superior strength properties.
Kydex is popular with leading knife manufacturers in the U.S., but because it is an expensive material, it is mainly used for high-end models. It is also very popular for making holsters for pistols and revolvers.
