A companion by design

Small enough to take. Useful enough to matter

Companero means “companion” in Spanish. We chose the name because this is the kind of Kizlyar Supreme knife that earns its place through frequent, ordinary usefulness—not through unnecessary size.

The 111 mm blade remains quick and controllable, while the 120 mm handle gives the hand the working space of a larger knife. Its narrow profile, delicate point and low-resistance cutting geometry favour clean, efficient work in camp, on the trail, by the water and around food.

Companero was developed with experienced Kizlyar Supreme users and knife specialists. During a year of testing, the blade was revised twice and the handle three times. That process is visible in the finished knife: the geometry, grip and leather carry system feel like parts of one idea.

Why it cuts differently

Every Companero is built around cutting efficiency rather than unnecessary thickness.

The AUS-10Co and VG-10 editions use faces that flow towards a very fine zero-convex edge, reducing the shoulder that must pass through material. The CPM S35VN edition reaches the same goal with especially thin flat bevels and a fine working edge.

That is why Companero feels especially natural when carving, preparing food, cleaning fish, cutting cord or making controlled slices. Whichever steel you choose, this is a precise cutter: the fine point and edge are not intended for prying, twisting in hard material or striking metal.

The technical outline makes Companero's balance easy to understand: a 111 mm blade and 106 mm cutting edge meet a full 120 mm handle in a knife measuring only 231 mm overall.

This rotating view records another produced Companero edition: AUS-8 steel with warm hornbeam scales. Materials and availability can change between production runs, but the compact full-tang proportions and practical outdoor character remain unmistakable.

Two independent Russian knife channels tested Companero on the kinds of work its geometry was made for. Their conclusions were strongly positive, but they also described the design honestly: exceptional cutting performance comes from a fine edge and point that should not be treated like a pry bar.

One of the strongest cutting evaluations

Across leather, fish, dry wood, food, rope and poultry, the reviewer praised Companero's sharpness, control and unusually effortless carving. After 50 rope cuts, he reported no meaningful loss of working sharpness and described it as one of the best cutters he had handled.

Useful caveat: his large hand wanted slightly more handle volume, and he cautioned against lateral pressure on the fine point or using the thin edge on metal.

Companero took first place in the Tourist Knife class for 90–120 mm blades at the 52nd International Exhibition Blade: Traditions and Modernity.

What is Kizlyar Supreme Companero designed for?

Companero is a compact outdoor fixed-blade knife focused on precise cutting: camp food preparation, carving, cord, fish, light game processing and everyday trail tasks. Its narrow blade and fine point favour control rather than brute-force work.

Is Companero a full-tang knife?

Yes. The tang runs through the full handle, with removable G10, walnut or other edition-specific scales fixed mechanically to the steel.

Which Companero steel should I choose?

Known editions include practical AUS-8, balanced AUS-10Co Cryo, familiar VG-10 Cryo and premium CPM S35VN. AUS-10Co and VG-10 examples use zero-convex geometry, while the S35VN edition uses very thin flat bevels. Choose the complete edition—not only the steel—because grind and handle material also change how the same model feels.

What does zero-convex geometry mean?
