Purpose-built balance

A throw you can feel

Osetr is intentionally more substantial than many slim throwing knives. Its mass produces clear feedback in the hand and helps the knife maintain a steady, readable flight when technique and distance are matched.

01

Stable, deliberate flight

The broad one-piece profile and approximately 250-gram mass give Osetr a composed character in rotation and no-spin practice.

02

Made for repeated practice

420HC stainless steel combines corrosion resistance with the toughness and practical maintenance expected from a dedicated throwing knife.

03

A recognisable classic

The curved handle and assertive tip geometry give Osetr its unmistakable silhouette—and make it one of the best-known forms in Russian knife throwing.

A long-running design

One form, refined through experience

Throwing-knife makers have explored versions of the Osetr form for decades. Weight, contours and proportions changed, while the characteristic curved handle and dynamic point remained recognisable.

Our interpretation focuses on useful mass and predictable handling. It is particularly well suited to blade-grip throws across different practice distances and to no-spin techniques; handle-grip throwing is possible, but has a more specialised rhythm.

Designed with practitioners: Osetr belongs to our sport-throwing family developed with experienced Russian knife throwers and tested for repeatable training use.

The one-piece construction leaves no scales, fasteners or moving parts to loosen during practice. A handle opening allows an optional cord wrap, although any wrap will slightly change balance and grip feel.

Clear answers

Osetr FAQ

What is the Kizlyar Supreme Osetr designed for?

Osetr is a purpose-built sport throwing knife for structured target practice. Its one-piece construction, substantial mass and recognisable curved profile are designed to give the thrower clear feedback and stable flight.

Is Osetr suitable for no-spin throwing?

Yes. Osetr is well suited to no-spin practice and to blade-grip rotational throwing. As with any throwing knife, consistency depends on technique, distance, target and the individual thrower.

Can Osetr be thrown by the handle?

It can, although the model has a more specialised rhythm when thrown by the handle. Many experienced users prefer Osetr for blade-grip throws or no-spin technique.

Why is Osetr heavier than many throwing knives?

At roughly 250 grams, Osetr provides pronounced feedback and carries momentum steadily toward a suitable target. The substantial feel is part of the model’s character, but preferred weight remains personal.

Which steel is used for Osetr?

The current listed version uses 420HC stainless steel. Some earlier production descriptions also reference 40Kh13, 30Kh13 or comparable stainless steels. Exact steel and finish can therefore vary by production run.

Can I wrap the Osetr handle with cord?

Yes. The integral handle can be wrapped with suitable cord and includes an opening that can help secure it. A wrap changes thickness, grip texture and balance slightly, so test the setup progressively.

Is a transport sheath available?

Kizlyar Supreme offers a compact multi-knife transport sheath compatible with Osetr, Strij, Vyatich and Lider. Included accessories vary by market, so confirm the package with your dealer.

How should Osetr be used safely?

Use it only for sporting practice in a controlled area with a suitable wooden target, a secure backstop and no people, animals or breakable objects behind or beside the target. Inspect the knife and target before every session and follow local rules.
